The Picksix: Lakers shorthanded?

New Orleans over DETROIT (-7.5) -- Far more meaningful to the still-proving-themselves Hornets than to Chauncey and his we-could-care-less Pistons.

HOUSTON (-3.5) over LA Lakers -- This line seems quite low for a game in which the home team has won 21 straight and the road team is expected to be without Pau Gasol due to a sprained ankle. We say this line rises by a few points prior to gametime.

Dallas (-14.5) over MIAMI -- Some attribute the Mavs' four-game win streak to the insertion of Jerry Stackhouse into the starting lineup. We postulate that it might have something to do with games against four putrid teams. Stackhouse will start, and Miami is one more putrid team. Should work either way.

Atlanta (-0.5) over NEW YORK -- The Hawks have something to play for. The Knicks do not.

Charlotte over CLEVELAND (-8.5) -- Prior to a bopping in Dallas, the 'Cats had won five straight and were starting to play much more competitive basketball.

SACRAMENTO (-5.5) over Toronto -- The Kings play strong ball at home and should be peeved after getting their heads handed to them by the Suns last night.

DENVER (-16.5) over Seattle -- Fast-paced basketball means lots of points and big margins of victory against bad teams for the Nugs.

Last night: 3-5
Season: 502-481
